Resolving Tasks

The following principles serve to express the intent of the rules in every situation and the aims of the designers:
1. Participants satisfaction is important. Not every person will always be pleased at a resolution, but efforts must be made to ensure
they are satisfied at the outcome and how it came about.
2. Rules support the game, not direct it. No resolutions should occur that lead to problems for the game. Rather, effort must be made
to creatively manage outcomes to enhance the game.
3. No one is always right. Writer, designer, gamemaster, player, and extra all participate in the process of resolving an action. Game-
masters implement the rules, players implement the rules; the rules system is to be used by everyone. When resolution of an action is
difficult, and discussion of the outcome is necessary, the following procedure is followed:
• A participant in the action chooses either:
to represent themself in the resolution
   or
allow the gamemaster to represent them
   or
allow a player to represent them (not an extra!).
This player becomes a Rules Advocate for that resolution.
• If more than one GM is involved, the Gms confer and they reduce the numbers of Gms involved in accordance to the Gm to Player ratio. Gms
can Freeze Call the game to confer with each other, and some may wish to focus their efforts on ensuring players not participating in the action
resolution have activity to participate in.
• Resolution participants
   (Advocates, Gms, self representing players)
resolve the action sensibly and rationally, using the rules system and common sense.
Resolutions should not be imposed but are best created by the participants in the conflict.
Sensible and rational resolution of actions
The use of a rules system creates equity amongst participants. Players who purposefully ignore or disregard the rules system are choosing not to participate in the game on an important and vital level. Age of Aquarius uses a simple rules system so that action flows quickly, and everyone can understand what is happening, and why, and what they are able to do to change it.
However, no rules system can solely arbitrate some actions. Where there is a chance participants cannot simply and effectively resolve an action, then a Gamemaster must be called for. Our Gamemasters are versed in conflict resolution, so that disagreements can be effectively and peaceably resolved. The approach of our gamemasters is not to guide players towards fulfilling story requirements. Our purpose is to handle every player appropriately; mindful of where she is coming from.
