Golden Path
This is simply the Nephilim plan to use the Solar-Ka (which they lack native
access to) in Earth-creatures - and most usefully concentrated in humans - to
help them reach Agartha. It was for this reason that the Nephilim bred humans
from ancient primate stock in the first place - or so they say.
Not all Nephilim agree with this path.
Golem
A creature created artificially, through Alchemical magic. A specialised branch
of Alchemy is the pursuit of an artificial replacement for the fleshy Simulacra
the Nephilim have been forced to inhabit for millennia. The aim is to create
a durable, strong replacement form of some type that is still capable of carrying
the spark of Solar-Ka. If it succeeds, Nephilim may at last be able to survive
without human hosts.
Incarnation
Incarnation is the process whereby a Nephilim Awakens (often from a long sleep
in its Stasis), then seeks (in Ka-vision), chooses and successfully overcomes
a suitable new host (or Simulacrum), overlaying their energy patterns on the
host's and occupying their body, mind and life.
A new host falls unconscious upon possession, awakening with the Nephilim in
charge. Nephilim always need a few days to get used to a new body. During this
time they scout out the Simulacrum's old haunts and associates, gauging how
long they can stay within the host's old acquaintances and patterns and how
useful any of these will be in furthering its own agendas.
The modern era can be especially unsettling for the newly incarnate - a millennia-old
spirit will be unprepared for the radical and widespread changes of the modern
world, even if their last incarnation was as recent as a few hundred years ago.
A Nephilim's Ka must first conquer the Solar-Ka of their intended host, enveloping
it and using it as a carrier to extend into the physical. Only then do the effects
of the Metamorphosis appear, modulating the host's body (which is the physical
extension of their Solar-Ka).
Ka
The vital essence of a Nephilim, its very being without which it does not exist.
Neither energy, matter nor spirit, but all of these at once, it is the Nephilim's
unique life-force (words from other belief systems such as Chi, Ch’awe,
Mana, and others may also be equivalent terms for Ka).
Ka is also a measure of a Nephilim's wisdom, measuring a growing comprehension
of the Real universe and indicating how far the Nephilim has progressed on the
path towards Agartha.
It is also a measure of the strength of a Nephilim's links to the magical Ka-fields
that permeate the Earth, and how well it can sense, manipulate and act upon
them. It is, in a sense, a synthesis of all the Nephilim really IS.
Ka is increased by learning, wisdom, and being faithful to one's elemental essences
and path. Ka can be decreased through accidental loss (such as by destruction
by Orichalka or other weapons wielded by humans, such as elixir rituals), through
its use to bond the Nephilim to a new host, or sometimes as a sacrifice to gain
the favours of a powerful entity (most often during a perilous summoning ritual).
Ka also affects the physical traits of the Nephilim's current Simulacrum - Fire-Ka
boosts raw strength, for example. When Ka rises (or falls) these traits alter
also, as do any abilities that depend upon them.
Ka is also used in Ka-Vision, which enables spiritual vision as well as speech
with similar creatures in Enochian (both are spiritual exchanges of information,
and basically the same activity).
Metamorphosis
Metamorphosis defines the changes that occur in a Nephilim's emotional makeup
- and which emanate through the Solar-Ka host vessel - as the Nephilim gathers
Ka and wisdom on its way towards Agartha. A Nephilim gradually transforms into
one of the Old Races as it progresses on its journey. Physical changes and abilities
become more and more pronounced until, just prior to its entry into Agartha,
its body and emotions have become attuned to its true spiritual essence, and
it is ready to travel the subtle planes beyond the physical.
When a Nephilim's host dies and it is forced to gain another (possibly resting
in stasis between incarnations), these effects are removed from the old host's
body (which reverts to its natural state) and extended anew into the physical
realm through the new host. Over a period of some hours, the new host's physical
self transforms into a new reflection of the Nephilim's inner self, and metamorphosis
will have taken place yet again.
Morph
A Nephilim who is more than halfway through Metamorphosis, and is in danger
of being seen as they really are by psychically sensitive humans.
Narcosis
Narcosis is the numbing state a Nephilim can find itself in when it is forced
to leave a host and then finds it cannot enter its Stasis, nor find an alternative
host. The Nephilim in narcosis becomes a static spirit, unthinking, unmoving,
condemned to remain at the spot where it lost its last host, deep in sleep.
In this state a Nephilim is still a concentrated bundle of Ka-energies, and
these begin to affect the local environment (like the natural five fields, only
more localised). Narcosised Nephilim are thus behind many haunted houses (Eolim),
magic and healing wells (Hydrim), and will-o-wisps and night lights (Pyrim).
The deadly sleep of narcosis can only be broken through outside intervention,
by reintroducing the Nephilim to its stasis or by using a spell that allows
a new incarnation to occur.
Nexus
A Nexus is a very rare event, when rays of all five natural Ka-fields cross
at the same place. Magic within a Nexus is much easier to cast, and Stases of
all types can be recharged there. More importantly, a Nephilim who locates one
of these rare events may use it to try to change their dominant Ka element,
and thus their entire personality and essence. Lastly, Nexi are thought to be
the only natural event that can give rise to a new-born Nephilim, never previously
incarnate.
