Lore level
guide:
1: You have heard a few stories.
2: You might have done some research, or maybe you grew up around people who
told tales of this.
3: You have travelled or been told tales by someone knowledgeable about the
old myths and legends. You are beginning to know a good variety of names, histories,
and subjects.
4: You begin to know the time periods when some myths originated, and what people
they are derived from.
5: The knowledge of what is false and what is true is beginning to be in your
grasp. Slowly you are beginning to get a feel for the old legends and tales.
6: You know a great deal on the given subject. You’ve heard much of what
is said about an event, time, or legend. Your head contains all sort of mental
cross-references between stories you have heard, places you have been, and books
you have read.
7: You are beginning to see connections that are not obvious. Bits of rumour
and story that do not seem connected suddenly become obvious parts of the whole.
When you are bored and mischievous you write your own myths convincingly enough
to spread them to fool others.
8: Your knowledge of lore has almost achieved the level of science. You experiment
with different hypothesis and attempt to find correlations with other lore and
history.
9: People know you know. You are the definitive source for everything there
is to know about one piece of lore.
10: You stand on the brink of insanity. There is nothing you do not know. And
yet, why does everything feel so incomplete?
Lore –
Lore is knowledge that has been passed down through the ages, from generation
to generation. Some lore is found in tales and stories, or in artefacts such
as scrolls or tomes. Some lore is in the myths and legends from ages past. Often
there are only a few small truths in these stories, but sometimes even a few
words can reveal a hidden secret from long ago. When you choose this skill,
you must immediately choose a specialisation category. You can choose more than
one category, but must develop each specialisation separately.
The categories are:
Dream: there are many legends surrounding the Dreaming. Stories
of creatures that come out of the night and terrorise, of people who have disappeared,
echoes of things man was not meant to know.
Myths of (culture): most societies have stories of their own
roots, of their own creation. Lost kingdoms and fantastic races of past societies
are also covered by this skill.
Legendary places: important battles, forgotten tombs and secret
temples, lost labyrinths all of these things are covered under this lore. This
is the skill of either trying to find these locations or uncovering their secrets.
Legendary Artefacts: this lore represents knowledge of legendary
items, from grails to swords to arks. You can know about the people who carried
them, the powers they held, the deeds they performed and where they were last
seen.
Spirits: this is knowledge of the spirit world, and of its
inhabitants.
Mechanics
This is the skill for construction and repair techniques to make and use pre-computerized
technology. It also includes machinery that is driven by non-natural power sources
(combustion, not wind or water). It encompasses mechanics for combustion engines,
electrical work, plumbing, and high voltage alternating current. Also this skill
can be used to deal with locks
Notice
This is the ability to notice important details about the world (not peoples
behaviour!), to be alert and wary, being able to sense noteworthy things. The
gamemaster can point out the obvious to you.
Pretend
If you want to disguise yourself in any way this is the skill you need. At the
basic level you simply alter a facial feature or make yourself look like something
else. A highly skilled person uses the essence of disguise to hide their true
self from others, portraying a different set of feelings and outlooks than their
own – to lie. You can alter the way a place will appear, camouflaging
features or simply distracting viewers from noticing something.
Recall
Although everyone possesses some form of memory, you have developed it into
a skill. With this ability you can ask a gamemaster for details for what you
as a player may have forgotten that happened in previous game sessions.
Research
This is the ability to find information in a library - assuming that a reference
exists! Through this skill you can obtain information from databases, books,
computer networks – basically any type of information storage system.
Success in the skill means you will elicit some information from that source
if any pertinent information is available.
